I wanted to focus on the moral and legal question, and therefore didn't get into the politics here, but it's possible this is a dog-who-caught-the-car situation. Anger over legal abortion is probably more politically useful than contentment with abortion bans. Then again, even with a full Roe v. Wade reversal, abortion would remain legal in some states, so there will be something for pro-life voters to be angry about.
I think quite a few do think it's murder, they just can't really say it because it's political suicide. I don't think it's necessarily them not believe it's murder, but they just think the end (ban abortion) justifies the means(compromising by not punishing the women and allowing rape exceptions)
The abortion bans are a solution in search of a problem.
But it's a surefire culture war pressure point, and that seems to be what matters most to many politicians today, unfortunately.
