Even with the invasion and war for the independence of Ukraine from Russia having gone on this long, it is important that we maintain moral clarity about it and a clear-eyed perspective. So it is for this reason that I keep reading pieces like this, even though I know it all myself already in my own mind. For the succinct summation that it is and to show my support for the people that are using their writing talents for the good guys. We in the democracy-supporting West need to prevail. We must prevail. And we need the full court press of the creative minds, as well as the military to keep on supporting the war effort.

I think that's part of why I wrote this.

The war is so big, and so important, while individuals like you and I are small. We can't possibly solve it, but maybe we can contribute to avoiding complacency, and keeping the moral and strategic stakes front of mind.

When I found myself struck by the contrast of the two sets of airstrikes and considered writing about it, I thought maybe I shouldn't bother since everyone already knows. But they might not have known the details of the strikes, and there's good reason to reiterate the moral clarity, even if that can feel tedious to people who follow the conflict closely and have internalized the stakes.
